mwcsvimport accepts standard CSV data exported from many spreadsheet application. In this example we will us an Microsoft Excel file of US states and capitals.
First open the file with Excel and choose File | Save As from the menu.

Change the Save as type: to CSV (Comma delimited) (*.csv).

Next, point your web browser to your copy of mwcsvimport.
Choose Browse and select the CSV file we just created. After you have selected the file click Next » to upload the data.


This next screen will present your data back to you in table format so that you can confirm the data was read properly. Press Next » if everything looks good.

Next, you will need to define your page template. This is where you can add wiki markup to format your data. Each column of data can be used with the variables presented at the bottom of the page. For example: ${statename}
Each row of your CSV file will become one page so you will need to make sure the Title: fields is unique for each page. Once you have the template defined click Next ».


Next, you will specify the website address of your Mediawiki site. Wiki Location: is the url of your Mediawiki installation omitting ‘index.php/?title=Main_Page’ from the end.
The username and password you provide will of need permission to create pages and update pages if you are overwritting existing ones.

Click Test write permission and mwcsvimport will create a test page on the remote wiki and give you feedback and a link.

Clicking on the link will take you to the created test page so you can confirm that your credentials are correct. Click next to go to the final setup.

The last step is to click the Import Pages button and watch as your pages are created one by one.

Once the import is finished you can click on the page names to see the resulting wiki pages.
